Identify whether your company has service-provider retention obligations. Define which production systems are in retention scope. Separate system logs, access logs, application logs, and security logs. Review whether logs contain personal data, tokens, secrets, or payment data. Estimate daily log volume before committing to 90-day retention. Decide who can search retained logs. Document who can export logs and why. Define how long logs should remain after a customer or employee leaves. Confirm whether legal counsel needs to review the policy.
